Canine hydrotherapy

What is hydrotherapy?

Canine hydrotherapy is a controlled form of exercise for dogs which is completely non-weight bearing, and therefore avoids the impact, stress and strain of normal exercise.

Ii it excellent for recovery after an operation or injury, as well as aiding with weight loss, building stamina, fitness and muscle tone.

Hydrotherapy is beneficial to dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages and breeds. Contact us to find out how it can benefit your dog.

How it works?

There are several properties of water that aid in hydrotherapy.

Buoyancy – Means that there is o pressure on the patients joints whilst they are building muscle and cardiovascular fitness.

Hydrostatic pressure – This helps to reduce swelling and to remove toxins from the body that will have built up.

Turbulence – This will help to build muscle and increase cardiovascular fitness.

Resistance – This will help to increase muscle mass as all movement is harder when submerged underwater.

Temperature – This will increase blood flow, improve the circulatory system and help to heal injured muscle or tissue.
